iasg weekends: david barbarossa
Continuing our iasg weekends residents series, we sat down with David Barbarossa for a wee chat. Let’s sea what we found out…
how did you get into music?
Ha! Apparently, I used to dance to Boney M’s ‘Rasputin’ in the nude to dry myself after a bath as a toddler. And it still happens on occasion forty or so years later!
what do you enjoy most about playing iasg weekends?
The energy of the place is sensational. I enjoy the weekend atmosphere and playing for the mixed crowd, whether people come to let their hair down and have a good time with their mates or to impress someone on their first date. Hearing some of my favourite music through the great sound system that’s in there is a treat – what’s not to like?
what song/mixtape changed your life?
I had two major periods when I switched from one genre to another. The Archie Bell’s & The Drells’ ‘Tighten Up’ changed me from a teenage indie kid into the first on the dancefloor throwing shapes. The Megatone remix of ‘I Need You’ by Sylvester changed me from a soul fan into the disco devil that stands before you these days.
what’s your favourite drink while playing at iasg?
If I’m not sipping on a Margarita, then it’s not me DJing and you have an imposter behind the decks!
how would you describe glasgow’s music/nightlife scene?
It’s getting better all the time and the best is yet to come!
